FRIENDS CAL: The Series Finale

Just as bittersweet as the series finale during that final scene where the camera pans out and all you see is Monica’s empty apartment with 6 keys on the counter, our FRIENDS crochet-a-long (CAL) has finally come to an end. And with that, comes our final photos.

In the future, I may be posting a blog post that will include the worked up images of all of our bonus panels that I offered during our CAL (I did not share those to the public, but only to those doing the CAL). But for now, I will be concentrating my efforts on my upcoming GREASE CAL that I am running in conjunction with Becki from Chloe Rebecca Boutique.

FRIENDS CAL: Bonus Panel

What would a FRIENDS graphgan be without PIVOT! on there somewhere? This is probably my most asked about panel. EVERYONE asks me where this panel is when I share progress photos. I offered it as a bonus panel during my FRIENDS crochet-a-long (CAL) because it is a looooooong panel. Seriously, it runs the entire length of the blanket. You’ll see it in it’s entirety later on this week during a fully completed graphgan photo! :)

FRIENDS CAL: BONUS SQUARE #2

Even though our FRIENDS crochet-a-long is over, I still have some surprises to show you. Those who were doing our CAL with us are already aware of all the bonus appliques and bonus panels that are available to them, but the public has yet to see them!

FRIENDS CAL WEEK #13: The One at Central Perk

While this week is the end of our regularly scheduled FRIENDS crochet-a-long panels, I have a few more surprises up my sleeve :) Next week we will be working on joining all the panels together along with the border that I have come up with for the whole blanket.

This week’s panel is by far, my favorite panel. This panel is not for the faint-at-heart (aka don’t do this panel first if you’re just starting because it IS the HARDEST one to work up…trust me), but, it’s my favorite. We very well cannot have a proper FRIENDS graphgan without a panel dedicated to Central Perk Cafe, now can we?

Just like Monica’s apartment was a key player in location, so was Central Perk. I mean, seriously, they were there all the time. Here’s a funny article listing a few iconic Central Perk moments.

FRIENDS CAL WEEK #12: The One with Pat the Dog

With only one more week of panels left, the end is in sight! While I could go on and on with releasing panels, sadly, we do have to finish this crochet-a-long at some point. If you are following along with us, you’ll find a blog post in a few weeks that will contain all of our bonus panels that I released throughout this CAL that only those actually participating have seen. So, stay tuned!

This week our panel features Joey’s giant dog sculpture (from his brief solo apartment adventure). The background pays homage to his bright red couch in that apartment as well. The dog moved from apartment to apartment (thank to Ross’ generosity) once Joey left his solo apartment after his soap opera character’s untimely death. Pat the Dog represents this rather bumpy time period (partially thanks to Chandler’s brief roommate Eddie) in Joey and Chandler’s relationship.

FRIENDS CAL WEEK #11: The One with the Chick and the Duck

One of my favorite episodes happens because of Joey and Chandler’s pet chick and duck–The One with the Embryos. Just in case you don’t know, that’s the episode where Rachel and Monica bet their apartment in a trivia game that Ross created in order to get rid of the chick (who was starting to crow). The guys won the game, thus trading apartments with the females across the hall. This episode, paired with the episode where the girls get their apartment back are definitely my favorite episodes of the entire series.

Besides the root of my favorite episodes, the chick and the duck were hilarious just because of the comedy brought on by them. Seriously, remember how funny Joey was when he brought home the chick? Here’s a little clip to refresh your memory:

FRIENDS CAL WEEK #10: The One with the Joey Special

Pizza was a staple on the tv show FRIENDS. From the time Ross and Rachel were broken up and Rachel orders a pizza Ross will hate to the time the girls received George Stephanopoulos’s pizza to the regular Joey Special–2 pizzas, pizza was a part of the show.

Here’s a good breakdown of a few times pizza made its prime time appearance on the tv show: 8 Times ‘Friends’ Was As Obsessed About Pizza As You Are.

FRIENDS CAL WEEK #9: The One with the Banner

I wanted to recreate the iconic FRIENDS show title and felt the black background reflected the dark night in which this banner shows up during the opening credits of every episode. If you’re at all the yarny type, you may look at all the black and silently scream inside (black yarn=no fun to crochet with because it’s hard to see your stitches with such a dark colored yarn), but I promise, the black background in contrast with the white backgrounds of many of our panels so far makes it stand out so well. Friends CAL WEEK #8: The One Where He’s Her Lobster

What would a FRIENDS tribute graphgan be without a lobster on it? For all you non-FRIENDS fluent followers, Phoebe has this theory that lobsters mate for life (she says they walk around holding lobster claws–check out the clip below for her explanation), and that Ross and Rachel are lobster. More specifically, that Ross is Rachel’s lobster. It’s a great scene and this little bit has become a part of pop culture and is referenced countless times in print and video all over the place.

FRIENDS CAL WEEK #7: The One with Smelly Cat

While Phoebe’s guitar represented all the important musical moments in FRIENDS, I felt that one song in particular deserved its very own panel–Smelly Cat. Smelly Cat popped up over and over throughout the series and is just so darn catchy that my 4 year olds who have never seen the show, heard the song while I was writing this, and can sing it word-for-word. From Phoebe singing Smelly Cat in Central Perk, to teaching another musician, to starring in a music video and cat litter box commercial, Smelly Cat will always be a staple of memorable FRIENDS moments.
