Grease Crochet-a-Long: WEEK #14

Welcome to our last week of graphs for our GREASE crochet-a-long! While this is our last week of officially scheduled graphs, that doesn’t mean that the fun stops here! Stay tuned for next week’s joining and bordering, plus, there may be a few more bonus appliques and bonus graphs coming your way!

Blanche's Xylophone.jpg

For our last week, I pulled inspiration from the vote that happened early on in our Grease crochet-a-long Facebook group. One of the ideas with the most votes was for Blanche and her xylophone! With her kooky sense of humor, Blanche breaks the ice and brings a bit of comic relief with her fun loving self. I had to find a combination of her pink collared dress with her xylophone to add to my own blanket.

This is our last week of graphs! Next week we will be joining our panels together and adding a border. Weave in all your loose ends and finish off each panel with an even SC (single crochet) border. You don’t NEED to do the single crochet border, but I HIGHLY suggest is as it makes joining your panels so much easier. Using the same color yarn as the background. My mini c2c = 2 sc in each chain 2 space + 2 sc evenly spaced out in the 3HDC + (sc + chain 2 + sc) in each corner. You can check out my blog post on this here.

GREASE crochet-a-long: WEEK #13

Grease was defined by the music. Well, afterall it is, a musical. The jukebox was a big part of social life in the 1950’s, so it’s only fitting that Grease features a jukebox in the Frosty Palace. As a tribute to all the music in Grease, I created this week’s panel.

Week #13: Frosty Palace Jukebox…

Just a friendly reminder to weave in all your loose ends (don’t wait until the last minute to do this…you’ll thank me later for bugging you about it now) and finishing off each panel with an even SC (single crochet) border. You don’t NEED to do the single crochet border, but I HIGHLY suggest is as it makes joining your panels so much easier. Using the same color yarn as the background. Grease Crochet-A-Long: WEEK #12

It’s getting to be that time again–the end of a crochet-a-long. We have just 2 more weeks left of our GREASE crochet-a-long! And, just like previous CALs, the end means more detailed (aka lots of color changes) weekly and bonus panels. So if you’re just joining us, go ahead and start at the beginning (or at least a few weeks back) because I’m going to start pulling out all the stops on graph details.

This week’s panel inspiration comes from the drive-in scene. The snack bar commercial in the background during Danny’s solo always stands out when I watch that scene, so I coupled that with a little bit of Danny and Sandy in his red car to create this panel. Here are the two clips I pulled inspiration from:

Grease Crochet-A-Long: WEEK #11

Banner time! Yes folks, we’re getting to that point in our GREASE crochet-a-long where we’re starting to wind down with the banner and the last few panels–just 3 more weeks to go! We’re almost to the finish line! The inspiration for the banner comes from the show’s title. You really could not go wrong with this image. Be warned, this is likely the most difficult panel in this crochet-a-long, and if you’re just joining us, I suggest you start with another panel before jumping into this one as the color changes may have you running for the hills if this is your first panel. Just take it one row at a time and remember that this isn’t a race! :)

GREASE Crochet-A-Long: WEEK #10

We’ve got the T-Birds and we’ve got the Scorpions on our graphgan. Checkered race flags surround a record and two music notes to symbolize their big race down at Thunder Road.

This week’s panel started out like every other panel–a design was developed and planned, then executed. But then I hit a little bump in the road. More like a fork in the road. I originally planned to have WEEK #10’s panel made twice, but when I realized that the pink milkshake from Frosty Palace would work perfectly on this panel size, I knew I had to draw up a graph for it. So, this week’s regularly scheduled weekly panel release also includes BONUS #2. Stay tuned for a little extra release later on this week ;) You will need to make a total of 2 of these panels in whatever combination you like–2 checkered flags, 2 milkshakes, or 1 of each.

This scene is where the inspiration behind the pink milkshake comes from. Poor Frenchy…

GREASE Crochet-A-Long: WEEK #9

“Your story’s sad to tell…” Poor Frenchy ended up being a beauty school dropout. Now, I have a rather biased opinion when it comes to Frenchy having played the role of Frenchy in a musical on ice when I was younger, but she is my favorite character. With her colorful outfits, fun pink hair, well-timed comedic relief, and great big smile, she’s definitely my favorite character.

After accidentally dyeing her hair bright pink in tinting class one day, Frenchy wishes she had a guardian angel to tell her what to do. Frankie Avalon plays the role of her beauty school guardian angel:

GREASE Crochet-A-Long: BONUS #1

Who doesn’t love a villain?…er, villainess in this case. In Grease we obviously have the Scorpions playing the role of the villain, but don’t forget Cha Cha DiGregorio, the villainess who seems to put Sandy on her toes with good reason. You can’t forget the time she took over Sandy and Danny’s winning dance at the National Dance-Off, finishing the number with Danny, and claiming the title. I knew I had to include Cha Cha on this graphgan somewhere, so I’ve included her panel as the very first bonus panel.

Bonus #1: Cha Cha DiGregorio

GREASE Crochet-A-Long: WEEK #8

“Tell me about it…stud.” By far, one of my favorite parts of the entire Grease movie, is at the end of movie when the ‘new Sandy’ and the ‘new Danny’ meet up at the Rydell carnival. The song, “You’re the One that I Want,” is a favorite of mine with Sandy in her tight black leggings, red high heels, and cherry red lipstick, and Danny with his sleeveless black shirt (and his tossed aside letterman sweater). Dancing thru the ride at the carnival where they end up singing and shaking in the ‘Shake Shack.’

So, with the Shake Shack lettering and Sandy’s red heel, I give you WEEK #8:

GREASE Crochet-A-Long: WEEK #7

Thank you, fans and friends and odds and ends…” And that was the start of the National Bandstand Dance-Off held at Rydell High, hosted by none other than Vince Fontaine. His smooth voice graced the airwaves about as well as his slick womanizing moves. One of my favorite parts of the Dance-Off scene (besides the actual dancing), was when Vince met Marty:

Vince: Hi, I’m Vince Fontaine, I’m judging the dance contest.
Marty: I don’t think I’m entered.
Vince: A knockout like you? What’s your name?
Marty: Marty.
Vince: Marty what?
Marty: Maraschino. You know… (suggestive) like in cherry??

Grease Crochet-a-Long: WEEK #6

Pinks, you punks. Pink slips. Ownership papers.” We all remember the steep bet for pink slips down at Thunder Road between Kenickie and Craterface–the infamous leader of the T-Birds rival, The Scorpions. With his shiny black car covered in flames, Craterface loses his car to Danny (driving for Kenickie) down at Thunder Road.

Because of the heat throughout the movie between the Scorpions and the T-Birds, I had to include a little nod to the other bad boys.
